Because International is proudly working in partnership with Carry the Future (insert hyperlink: http://www.carrythefuture.org/) in this 3-day campaign to bring sustainable footwear to refugee children. Carry the Future is a volunteer-run humanitarian organization dedicated to hand-delivering aid to refugee families.
Here are the facts:
- There are over 65 million people in the world classified as displaced peoples.
- 1 in every 13 people are forcibly removed from their home.
- 24 people are displaced every minute
- 51 % of these refugees are under 18 years of age.
- Nearly 100,000 children are alone or separated from their families
So, why are shoes a need?
Kara is CTF’s Communications Response Officer. According to her, “the conditions are quite terrible in a lot of the camps. [Children] are walking on trash, they’re walking on sharp rocks, they’re walking into bathrooms that are not cleaned, there’s tons of snakes and scorpions and other bugs. It is really important for us to be getting them some proper shoes. Shoes that fit them, shoes that don’t have holes, shoes that aren’t flip flops or Crocs are so important.”
Erin Leonard, Greece Distribution Officer, emphasized the importance of #TheShoeThatGrows stating, “shoes are definitely in the top 1-2-3… besides food and shelter. Shoes are definitely a top need.”

Every last thing he owns are donations and he is a citizen of nowhere. I don’t know much, but I do know that his mother wants more for him, and so do I.”
The Shoe That Grows puts children in the best possible position to succeed. Not only that,
