Meet Abbie! She handles the day-to-day communications here at Because International. If you send us an email or call our office, she’s likely the one you will talk to!
Fun fact: Abbie LOVES hotdogs and coffee. Lots and lots of coffee.
Where did you grow up?
Bellevue, Washington… a suburb outside of Seattle
What brought you to Because International?
After moving to Boise in 2011, I realized I missed being plugged into the nonprofit world. I researched a few Idahoan organizations and came across ‘The Shoe That Grows.’ I loved Because International’s mission. I emailed Kenton, we met for coffee, and he offered me a job that day. Best. Coffee. Date. Ever.
When did you start working at Because?
I began working with Because in February 2015, and in January 2016 I was hired fulltime.
What is another organization you'd like to work with for one week?
This is a completely unfair question. There are so many incredible organizations. I would love the opportunity to work with Steve Zakuani’s Kingdom Hope, or Carry the Future.
Have you ever worn the shoe?
Yes
What's the best concert you've ever been to?
A few years ago I saw OneRepublic at an outdoor venue in Boise… I was with some of my closest friends and the sun was setting – it was gorgeous.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Anything outdoors
Where did you go to school?
I went to a small liberal arts college in Chicago, North Park University, and obtained my degree from Boise State University.
Who's your favorite athletic team?
Arsenal FC
What's your favorite part about working for Because?
The photographs and testimonials. We work behind the scenes, so I love hearing the stories of the children who receive our shoes.
What's your favorite memory in the office?
Kenton, Andrew, and myself working in the bonus room before we got the office. And that one time Carter (the Kroes’ then 2 year old son) showed me a tractor… highlight of my life.
Where can people find you on your lunch break?
At my desk asking Andrew to help eat my food.
If you could describe the perfect vacation, where would you be?
On a mountain in the winter or enjoying autumn in Europe.
